Etiquette of Writing a Thank You Note

With the emergence of technology and sending responses to social media applications, people forget the art of writing letters or Thankyou responses. People prefer to message on smartphones with the copied text from the internet rather than the written cards or greetings. Cards and Thankyou notes are the most beautiful act of responding. Short replies on email are quite fine but for responding to anyone’s gift, greeting, and prayers, one must know the art of writing the Thank You note. The card or greeting you are writing for someone loved to see when he/she opens it.

Let us discuss a few tips for writing Thank You note. It will be helpful for those who don’t know the art of writing the greetings.

Many people are good at speaking skills but whenever they try to pen down the thoughts they are not able to write down anything. Writing Greeting notes does not mean it should be perfect from a literature point of view but these notes should express heartfelt emotions and feelings.

Choose the Perfect Time 

Decide to yourself that, how you want to respond formally or informally. The appropriate way of writing the Thank you note.

  • If there is any function in your home, for example, engagement, wedding, baby shower, birthday note, along with other arrangements think about how you will write thank you note for the guest coming to your party. It will leave your positive image in the mind of your guests
  • If you achieve something in your life for example your graduation, while receiving a gift respond with the thank you and show some gratitude. If someone encourages you, it is your responsibility to respond in a better way.
  • Also, write a thank you note if your grandparents send you the gift from far away. Send a Thankyou card with love and emotions.
  • According to the etiquette of writing thank, you note, the typical time for writing the note is three months after receiving the gift. 

On a lighter note, don’t feel down if you couldn’t find the time to write, show some gratitude and emotions through your words if possible write down the reason for sending the note late.

The Opening should start from Greetings

Open you Thank you note with the greetings. Write the recipient’s name along with the greeting. For example, you are writing a letter to your grandparents. Start with the Dear grandfather and a connecting sentence with love. If you are sending this for multiple people in the family, then opening will be different accordingly. If you get separate gifts from everyone write separate notes. Otherwise, there is no need to write for a single person. Share your feelings, how you feel while opening the gift. The body of the note should be moderate, try not to exaggerate but pen down the real emotions. Write a sentence like “I feel glad that you become the part of my big day or making my event more successful”. End with Thanks again sentence.

Do’s and Dont’s in writing the Thankyou note 

There are a few things you should be careful about writing the thankyou note. You must know what to write or not. Make your mind before the start and sketch it 

  • Try to write it from your hand, despite printing the note or taking the already written cards.
  • Make connections in the letter for staying in touch in the future. Ask them to stay connected.
  • Don’t lie about the gift if you don’t like it. It doesn’t mean you start saying lie. Stay moderate and say simple Thank you with greetings.
  • Don’t neglect to send. Although you get late but try to send the thank you note.
  • Don’t use social media as a medium to send the thank you note. Write it from hand and send it.
