A Parent Guide to Teach Your Kid about Emotions and Feelings Part 1

Emotions are found in every person belonging to every age group. Your behavior describes the emotion you are going through. For example, when a person starts reacting to things and messes up with friends and family. Just like elders, kids have emotions too but they don’t know about them and therefore they could not convey their feelings to their parents. It is the duty of the parents to make their kids learn about emotions. Kids are like a blank canvas. They learn whatever their parents make them learn. Being toddlers whatever they learn, they speak accordingly. This is the reason why teaching your kids is important. When kids are at the age of two, they start learning and observing things around them. Start teaching your kids the most basic emotion like happy, sad, scared, and mad instead of trying to teach them heavy emotions. It is founded in researches that the kids between the age of four to six start to know about the basic emotions such as happiness, sadness, scary and angry. Other emotions like guilt, pride, or shame are learned on the basis of these emotions. For a better understanding of your kid, talk to your toddler and understand whatever your kid perceives. Take Help from TV Characters
Today’s kid is born with technology. It is the reason a month kid is fond of watching cartoons and shows. They smile by seeing the characters. Use it as a tool to make your kids learn about these emotions. There are many famous shows that teach about emotions to kids. In this way, they start expressing things they are learning. These shows focus on the essential emotions a kid needs to learn. It is the way that kids learn unintentionally. Emotions are meant to be expressed, there is nothing wrong or right in emotions. It is completely fine to feel everything, every emotion, every little thing.
Name the Feelings
Being a parent when you start observing that your kid starts knowing about emotion. It is the best time to educate about the emotions. When you start making learn the emotions they can express them easily. When they are throwing any emotion take the name of emotion for example if your kid is angry then ask him “you are angry because I didn’t give you chocolate”. When you name the feeling, the kid got an idea of what this emotion or feeling is being called. Similarly, do the same when your kid is expressing happiness. Ask your kid “you are happy because you are watching your favorite show”. Human beings are full of emotion. They feel every little thing and show the emotions accordingly. Therefore, it is not so challenging to feel everything so much. You can teach your toddler everything easily by doing other tasks at home. Keep the process natural and minimal.
Read Books with Your Kids
Books are the best tool to make your kid learn about emotions. Books that teach emotions are the easiest way. In this way, you can make them learn about anger, frustration, love, and sadness. After reading the book, question your kid about it and you will know how much the kid understood. Use real-life examples with the kid to make him learn about the emotion.
